Five martyred in IED explosion in Khyber Agency

At least five people were killed when an improvised explosive device went off in Aka Khel area of Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency on Monday, according to security sources. The attack took place in a remote area of the valley, he said.

The Head of Peace Committee Zarwali Khan quoted in a report by local Dawn News said three members of the committee were killed in the explosion.

Those killed in the attack had been identified as Zar Wali, Noor Khan, Gul Nawaz, official Abdul Manan and Tamiz.

Security sources further said that four of the deceased persons were volunteers of the Peace Committee while one was levies officer.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility but Islamic State group militants have been responsible for previous similar attacks.

Pakistan's army is battling militants in tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.
