According to various reports on Saturday, the 39-year-old got kicked out of his regular gym and banned after being confronted by Georgetown University professor Christine Fair, who recognized Spencer as one of the chief figureheads of the so-called alt-right.

Spencer has become notorious in recent months as the election of President Donald Trump has strengthened and emboldened the white nationalist movement, which holds that the U.S.is a white Christian nation which should be racially "purified" through "peaceful ethnic cleansing".

Spencer told BuzzFeed.com that after his run-in with Fair, the health club canceled his membership.

"I said, 'Of course you are, so not only are you a Nazi - you are a cowardly Nazi, '" recounted Fair in an interview.

But she argues the gym had a right to revoke Spencer's membership because his presence could create a hostile work environment for employees, some of whom are black.

Fair said in her online post she "loudly identified [Spencer] as a neo-Nazi".

He claimed he was at the gym "peacefully working out" when Fair came up and started asking him if he was Richard Spancer.

Spencer commented saying he was a "well-behaved" member of the gym who didn't cause any controversy. "As a woman, I find your statements to be particularly odious; moreover, I find your presence in this gym to be unacceptable, your presence in this town to be unacceptable". "I found his membership at this gym to be an unfair burden upon the women and people of color-and white male allies of the same", Fair wrote. "I don't know what we're going to do", he said.

'I can't believe she's a professor.

For Alexandria residents, the incident marked another chapter in a tense relationship with the public figure, who from his Old Town think tank office advocates the alt-right, a small, far-right movement that seeks a whites-only state.

And it worked. Spencer showed his termination letter to BuzzFeed, telling the publication he doesn't interact with anyone at the gym and never made any trouble: "I really just go and lift weights".

Fair said she would do it again - and urged others to confront haters wherever they can.

Fair can't resist showing off her superior vocabulary, calling Spencer a "pendulous poltroon" (floppy coward), "flaccid, sorry excuse of a man" and "pusillanimous shitbird". "I told the fellow, 'I think we can have a deal here: You don't let any more Nazis in, and I won't be making a scene'".
