Dustin Johnson tees off on the ninth hole during the second round of the Byron Nelson golf tournament at TPC Four Seasons Resort, Friday, May 19, 2017, in Irving, Texas.

Things are going much better for Day so far at TPC Four Seasons at Las Colinas, where Day did his best Phil Mickelson impression Thursday by hitting off the cart path following an errant drive at the par-4 11th hole.

American Jason Kokrak fired a flawless eight-under-par 62 to seize a commanding five-stroke lead midway through the AT&T Byron Nelson in Irving, Texas on Friday.

Matt Kuchar birdied two of his final three holes to grab a share of third spot, joining Jhonattan Vegas, Jason Kokrak and Cameron Tringale on four under.

Masters and defending Nelson champion Sergio Garcia had three bogeys on the front nine and just one birdie in a 73 that left him tied for 93rd.

"I called bank shot out there from 245 (yards) and just one-hopped the back of the grandstands in there about 3½ feet and was able to curl that one in", he said. On the next hole, he had to bend his second shot around tree from the rough and saved par.

After starting his round with six consecutive pars, Pampling went on an impressive run, starting with a 2m birdie putt on the par-5 seventh. I've got to get back into rhythm there. "It's a long time ago since I have been in this situation. You just had to contact it correctly".

Australia's Rod Pampling made four birdies in five holes in a mid-round surge during the Byron Nelson Classic in Texas. "I've got to figure out what I'm doing on the greens, first and foremost".

Koepka birdied his first two holes and was 5 under through 13 holes before stumbling late. He missed the par putt.

The former US Open runner-up then cancelled out a bogey at the next with a birdie-four at the 16th to get to six under, while Hahn closed his blemish-free card with a 20-foot gain at the last. Three under isn't very good around here.

"I had a great conversation with my caddy on nearly every hole trying to leave ourselves the best opportunity for a birdie".
