2 school bus crashes have killed 2 drivers, injured students

The vehicle he was driving rear-ended a school bus in Salem, Wisconsin just north of the IL border Friday morning in the 24500 block of Wilmot Road. About 20 students were on the bus.

Separate school bus crashes on opposite sides of the state have killed two drivers and sent students to the hospital.

Ashland County Sheriff Michael Brennan told the News Tribune that "excessive speed" appeared to be a contributing factor in the accident. "It slide into the back of the bus, and the engine compartment went under the back bumper of the bus". The uninjured students were taken to the Trevor Fire Department to be released to school officials and parents.

The posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour on Highway C, which closed between Highway 83 and 258th Avenue while authorities investigated the crash.

The bus was carrying students to Westosha Central High School at the time of the crash.

Beth credited the school's response.

The names of the victims are being withheld pending family notification.
