Plus, say what you will about Netflix ruining and screwing up the theatrical experience, but we're overjoyed that everyone will get to experience this film together in just under a month. Now, having secured a spot at Cannes, director Bong Joon-ho presumably feels comfortable throwing back the curtain on what may well be the most freaky movie of the year, about one girl's quest to save a giant CGI pig monster from being eaten by Tilda Swinton.

Bong Joon Ho is one of the greatest directors working today.

The first trailer gives us an idea of what to expect.

When Swinton's character manages to steal Okja from its rural home, its best friend sets out on a mission to save the animal with a little help from an organization that's like PETA, but without all of the excessive insane bits.

A Netflix Original, it stars Hollywoods stars Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Collins, and newcomer Ahn Seo Hyun. Watch the trailer below, ahead of its June 28 release.

The film has been chosen to compete in the main competition for the Palme d'Or (the highest prize award) at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.

For ten years, Mija (newcomer An Seo-hyun) has lived harmoniously in South Korea with the friendly superpig-until the big bad Mirando Corportation snatches up the gentle creature, with the intention of using it to revolutionize the livestock industry.

The trailer arrives in the aftermath of an Okja teaser trailer, a viral video-style clip starring the chameleonic Tilda Swinton as Lucy Mirando, the eponymous CEO of the Mirando Corporation. "With no particular plan but single-minded in intent, Mija sets out on a rescue mission".
