Arsene Wenger insists he never questioned the character of his Arsenal side as they continued their turnaround with a vital win at Southampton.

Arsenal came away from St. Mary's Stadium with a 2-0 win over Southampton in a rescheduled Premier League match on Wednesday night.

Manchester United appear to have given up on the top four, after the Gunners beat them 2-0 on Sunday, with Jose Mourinho's side focusing on the Europa League.

"The whole team was dynamic, focused and showed a convincing desire to win the game".

"It was a hard game but we expected that and I believed in the second half we could score the goals that we didn't in the first half because we created more space".

Arsenal fans should know by now it is the hope that kills you, but that didn't stop Gooners latching onto Alexis Sanchez's goal celebration against Southampton and taking it as a sign he was ready to commit his future to the club.

"He's very good in a small space and once he has the ball in the box he's risky".

Giroud settled the contest with a late header and Wenger admitted the form of his frontmen has left him with a selection headache. We knew that coming here is not easy to play, it's a good team, a team that like to play.

Asked about Wenger's side finding their form at the right time, Mustafi replied: "Well I wish we found that before".

"For me, we deserved minimum a draw and maybe a win".

"It seems we had all the good situations in the first half, but second half for them just one situation is enough to score and this is hard to accept".

Arsenal saw out victory with little trouble to complete a first league win at Southampton since their famous "Invincibles" season of 2003-04. It's hard to accept.

The 28-year-old struck on the hour with a cool finish as the Gunners took full advantage of their game in hand to close in on the top four.

"Opportunities, chances, good play, but no clinical edge".

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain went off with a hamstring injury before half-time and was replaced by Hector Bellerin, a big blow for Arsenal considering his excellent performances in the last few months.

The Chile forward picked up a pass inside the box from Mesut Ozil and left both Maya Yoshida and Jack Stephens on the ground as he cut back inside and finished well.

That was goal number 20 in the Premier League for the Chilean worldwide this season - his 14th away from home - he also hand a hand in Giroud's goal as he clipped a fine ball to the back post for Aaron Ramsey and proved a point on a night where he needed to.
