The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline Monday in Lancaster was $2.50, down almost 5 cents from a week ago, according to GasBuddy's weekly fuel gauge report.

According to AAA, Michigan ranks 23rd in the nation for the most expensive gas price and third in the nation for the biggest weekly change.

GasBuddy, a free smartphone app connecting more than 60 million drivers, recently analyzed three years' worth of fuel price data to determine the best and worst days of the week to buy gas for optimum savings.

According to AAA, gas prices are plunging across the United States, and motorists are expected to see another round of discounts this week.

Despite this week's decline, prices this year are still about 12 to 14 cents higher than they were at this time last year. "Prices now lay on the fringe of falling under the same point as last year as this year's usual spring rally has been the weakest in recent memory".

Gas in San Francisco was the highest in the contiguous United States at an average of $3.02 a gallon.

In the Springfield area, the average gas price is $2.13 per gallon with prices falling.

The average price of gasoline in Rhode Island is 10 cents higher than it was at this time previous year.

Elsewhere, the national average fell 3.7 cents to $2.34 per gallon.
