Robert "Bob" Wilson was reportedly a prominent figure in television and is said to have paved the way for KERA, North Texas' public broadcasting station. His influence inspired a 2011 documentary called Bob Wilson and the Early Years of KERA, released as the station marked its 50th anniversary - a celebration whose gala Bob was too sick to attend at the time, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Also in attendance was former Monty Python member Terry Gilliam, who also had Wilson to thank - it was his go-ahead that let KERA be the first American outlet to broadcast "Monty Python's Flying Circus".

"This man operated at full blast", Lehrer continued.

"Its one of those things where if somebody had said 10 years ago, when my dad and I were joking around, having a putting match, that this is the position your dads going to be in, where he basically needs 24-hour care, youd think, Gosh, I wont be able to handle that". "He worked with these great creative people with great senses of humor and I remember being at dinner and just hearing Dad's friends talk", he said.

"But it does happen".

He is survived by his actor sons Owen, Luke and Andrew, and wife Laura, who is a photographer. Such things just happen in life. You've got no choice but to accept it. And then, you sort of still look for the things to be grateful for. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in his memory to PBS.
