WWE Raw: Wyatt, Joe attacks help The Miz become no. 1 contender

This Sunday, WWE hosted Payback, a Pay-Per-View that would help finalize the Superstar Shake-up.

The opening segment featured all the female superstars inside the ring who gathered for Alexa Bliss' championship coronation.

Bayley and Bliss traded offense early in the match, and as has been the case in most of her matches, Bliss' expressions and yelling at the audience alone were enough to drive the already partisan hometown crowd for Bayley into a frenzy.

We noted before that R-Truth and Goldust mentioned during the WWE Payback Kickoff pre-show how they were going to ask RAW General Manager Kurt Angle for a RAW Tag Team Title shot. Bayley still has her championship rematch in store, but this match helps serve as a way to boost the entire division instead of just the women in the title picture.

Bliss picked up the win after raking Bayley across the eyes and executing a DDT.

In what felt like the second big shocker of the night, Bliss was able to take advantage of Bayley getting rattled by the turnbuckle post and Bliss was able to secure the three count for the win. Everything eventually settles down, and the match finally starts. Luke Gallows defeated Enzo Amore in a singles contest.

Rollins won out over Joe thanks to what many could look at as a fluke.

Tonight at Payback, Finn Balor declared his intention to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Or maybe The Miz should be the one to challenge the Beast, seeing as how he was one of the most successful Intercontinental champions like...ever.

So that's two big-name feuds which should deliver in terms of match quality and they came off of a match that was pretty good. Rich Swann drove Alicia Fox to break up with Noam Dar, and Akira Tozawa has been battling with Brian Kendrick for months over teaching each other lessons.

Coming to the ring after Payback, wrestlers have a lot to say. The former challengers leave the ring and retreat, trying to play mind games with the Hardys. Crews finished the job with the sitdown powerbomb. Titus O'Neil takes a selfie with Crews after the match, but Rhyno photobombs them. After a hellacious House of Horrors match that saw Randy Orton defeated, Bray Wyatt hit the ring to announce that he would be the saviour of the WWE Universe, as the time for low profiles was over with. But Aries counters and gets Last Chancery applied for the win.

The story being told wasn't anything out of the ordinary. In the meanwhile also gets in a Detonation Kick. Perkins tries hard against Aries' gutbuster and fivearm.

- Local advertising for the May 15th Raw taping in Newark, New Jersey lists Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe as matches. That man, was The Miz, as the Awesome one survived a gauntlet of assaults and used his own in-rin skills to pin Finn Balor. While Samoa Joe's damage might have been minimal, a Sister Abigail on Balor certainly wasn't as The Miz seized the opportunity.
