Jose Mourinho praised the mentality of Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford after Man Utd's nervy Europa League quarter-final victory over Anderlecht on Thursday.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford scored the two goals after Sofiane Hanni equalised in the first half.

"I want to wait but my feeling is not good, for both", Mourinho said, when asked how long the pair might be out.

He added: 'I think it's time for Jones and Smalling to be courageous, to risk because for the team you have to do everything.

Rashford, now deployed through the middle, though, would make sure Manchester United would not need penalties to advance by scoring the victor in the 107 minute.

Of Rashford, who created Mkhitaryan's opener and went on to score the victor, Mourinho said: "You speak about his qualities and they are fantastic".

"You speak about his qualities and they are fantastic".

In the 91st minute of his Manchester United's tie with Anderlecht at Old Trafford, forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic came down from an aerial challenge and injured his right leg, forcing him to leave the game.

"I'm happy I chose this club because I think this club is the biggest in Manchester, in England and one of the biggest in the world. So instead of come mid-May, you can come beginning of May".

"I always trust the players with special mentality".

Mourinho reserved praise for the Belgian side and their travelling fans, while also taking delight in the fact the Europa League dream, and therefore automatic qualification to the Champions League, is still alive.

"These sort of things make me trust the players".

The young England forward looked risky throughout the match but wasted some golden opportunities to seal the victory well before extra-time.

United's opponents in the semifinals could be Lyon, Ajax or Celta Vigo. "I'm happy. It was a hard game, difficult opponent". I am exhausted but I imagine the players are exhausted more than me. "While mathematically it is possible [to finish in the top four] in the Premier League, we have to fight for it".

"But in attack, we have options and (Wayne) Rooney is coming, and let's see if Mata can also return before the end of the season, let's see what happens".
