For San Jose, at least - the Oilers got trampled under the hooves.

Game 5 will be played Thursday night in Edmonton, with the sixth game Saturday night in San Jose. The teams are now tied in the series, with two wins each. The stakes are high in this one.

Edmonton coach Todd McLellan may not have been expecting a blowout, but the fact the Sharks came out strong was no surprise.

"They will play like they always play". "They don't get two games winning 7-0".

In St Paul, Minnesota, Jaden Schwartz scored with 2 minutes, 27 seconds remaining during a four-on-four situation as St Louis beat Minnesota to take a 2-0 series lead. "It could be 3-0 either way, really, the way the games have gone".

Edmonton is not a ideal team by any means.

"We were bad tonight, obviously", McDavid said after the loss. Baseball Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson, donned in a Sharks jersey, opened the dressing room door to lead San Jose's players on the ice before the game.

Who takes home Game 4?

Brossoit gave up two goals on eight shots.

The Sharks have been outscored 21-11 while going 1-5 in their last six playoff games with the Oilers. We haven't been like that all year so I think it was a one-off.

It's not the only stunt Scheetz has pulled in his short trip to San Jose. That's what we need in the playoffs. In their Game 1 win they had to erase a 2-0 lead before Melker Karlsson's overtime marker, and they hadn't found the net since. We have to stay on task.

"We wrapped it all up into one night".

"It's tight checking out there. You've just got to keep grinding and create scoring chances", Maroon noted. "We had our chances". Take Game 1 away, I think we've been the better team in those (other) two. The expectation is Draisaitl will be back on McDavid's right wing to at least start game four.

"You go with your gut during the game".

McLellan, returning to the city where he coached the Sharks for five seasons, played down any special significance the victory might have had for him. The Edmonton Oilers are a young team finding themselves in the playoffs for the first time in a decade, riding the hopes of their frenzied fanbase on their shoulders for a pivotal game that will put the victor within a win of advancing to the next round. But outside of the SAP Center, where the Sharks skate and where they hosted the Stanley Cup Finals a year ago, the team isn't exactly making headlines. That'll need to continue tonight.

"My math says the series is still 2-2", Oilers captain Connor McDavid said.

Had the Oilers killed it off, they could have seized the momentum. Game 4 is Tuesday night in San Jose.

Edmonton: The Oilers are healthy with the exception of Tyler Pitlick, who's out for the season.

Patrick Marleau, Marcus Sorensen and David Schlemko also scored for San Jose, Brent Burns had three assists and Martin Jones made 23 saves for his fourth playoff shutout. On Apr. 14, 2017 vs. San Jose, he made 16 saves to earn his first career National Hockey League playoff shutout, and become the sixth Oilers goaltender to register a playoff shutout.

The Oilers scored the third most goals in the Western Conference during the regular season. While Kassian has been an unexpected surprise, Talbot might be the Oilers' most valuable player in this series.

When the playoffs began, no one would have predicted the impact that Zack Kassian would have for the Oilers.

"We have confidence", Thornton said of the San Jose power play showing.

The Oilers held their own in a scoreless opening period against a Sharks team determined to show their lacklustre performance in Game 2 was an aberration.

"I thought he was fine".

Later in the game, defenseman Kris Russell shoved him toward the end boards, face first.

What does it mean for San Jose if Edmonton stops taking dumb penalties? You could move guys around but you could always throw somebody back into that centre ice position. "But we will park the game". You're going off that top line that's been a tremendous line for us for a few months now.
