Kompany proved he is back to full fitness following an injury-hit season with a commanding display, including his side's opening goal, in a 3-0 win at Southampton on Saturday.

"The performance is so good considering where we are playing and that is why we are so, so happy".

"Vincent is a central defender who doesn't only win all the duels, but reads the game and passes well", Guardiola told BT Sport.

But despite failing to live up to his billing in his first season at Manchester City, Guardiola claims there is a sense of calm in England that he hasn't experienced before.

"I love him for how he plays and because we play together in the Selecao and we did at the Rio Olympic Games. When this happens I feel like I'm giving something back to the fans and the team, and that's what you see in those moments".

"In 10 days we play the real final against United so that is why it was so important to win". Not just the defensive part - he's helped us a lot - but he is doing all he can do in our process to create chances.

Then, in the 80th minute, De Bruyne chipped the ball into the Saints six-yard box and Aguero nodded home at the far post to seal an ultimately comfortable, and potentially precious, victory.

That's right, the fleet-footed youngster, who has played as an attacker for his entire career, could be used in an orthodox role for Die Mannschaft but, speaking to Manchester Evening News, Sane is not exactly keen on the idea.

Guardiola's men also have the FA Cup to look forward to, with a game against Arsenal scheduled in the semi-finals next weekend.

"We have to believe in ourselves and tactically we have to play for each other defensively and offensively".

"This result is so important for our qualification for the Champions League".

"We had that in the Monaco game and we can not forget how good they are after what they did in Dortmund. We showed we could make good opportunities against this team but it was not sufficient and it was hard for us".

"I like both to be involved, I have confidence in both of them, so we will see". We can not forget how good they are, after what they did in Dortmund [a 3-2 win in the quarter-final first leg].
