Mauricio Pochettino is rumoured to be a huge fan of Keane and Spurs are willing to shell out around £15-20million to ensure they land one of their top summer targets. He looks certain to be a firm fixture in Gareth Southgate's plans for many years to come and he looks to be a potential future captain of the Three Lions. The move is expected to boost Manchester United's expectations for landing Eric Dier.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman has made no secret of his admiration for the 24-year-old Clarets defender.

It is believed Keane would cost in the region of £20m, which in today's market isn't too bad a deal.

Last summer they forked a world record £89million for former academy product Paul Pogba having let go of the French midfielder in 2012.

Keane made his first-team debut in the League Cup on 25 October 2011, coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute in Manchester United's fourth round victory over Aldershot Town.

Who next for United?

Burnley's record transfer fee received now stands at £7m for Jay Rodriguez's move to Southampton in 2012 and that will be obliterated, with the club set to receive a massive profit on the £2m that was paid to sign him permanently.

Keane could end up being a straight replacement for Dier. If they can get Keane for nothing a year later, even better.

Burnley host United on Sunday April 23.

The Dutchman hailed their season as "incredible" although is mindful that form away from Goodison Park must improve after only two wins on the road since September.

"We finished third last season and we're second in the league at the moment and also in the semi-finals of The FA Cup, so that is progression".
