With regard to hitting, the Red Sox are off to an impressive start.

Tampa Bay Rays' Jake Odorizzi pitches during the first inning of a baseball game against the Boston Red Sox in Boston, Saturday, April 15, 2017, in Boston.

Sale (1-1, 1.25 ERA) allowed one run and three hits and struck out 12, and he has been strong in all three outings.

Farrell is asking a lot of his 'pen - Red Sox relievers have averaged more than 31⁄3 innings per game.

Chris Sale was at his brilliant best as the Boston Red Sox edged at the Tampa Bay Rays, while Kris Bryant went long for the Chicago Cubs.

"I think overall (Saturday) was a pretty good performance by us against a really good pitcher, and he was at the top of his game", Odorizzi said. "Just trying to bounce some things off him, just trying to get back into that rhythm and timing that I had previous year".

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Red Sox are -136 money line favorites over the visiting Rays, who have odds of +123 to pull off the upset this morning at 11:05AM ET. Craig Kimbrel, pitching for the third straight day, notched his third straight save, and 25th straight dating back to last season.

"He's put together a number of quality at-bats of late", Boston manager John Farrell said.

The former Chicago White Sox ace tossed seven innings and gave up just three hits on his way to his first win since his blockbuster trade to Boston.

Once again, the Tampa Bay Rays are striking out on the road.

It was another game they were in until near the end.

At 28 years old, Steven Wright had finally broken through and made it to the majors. The Rays completed a 1-6 trip that followed a franchise-best 5-2 start.

Baseball and Central Mass. go way back - to the 1860s.

The Rays struck out 46 times in the series and lead the majors with 150.

With all the hype surrounding the young outfielder, Benintendi has remained poised, hitting a home run on opening day and having two three-hit performances thus far. The rookie allowed a single, scoring a run (credited to Wright) but then got a flyout get out of the inning. Ramirez is day-to-day with a left hamstring cramp. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez was placed on paternity leave after his wife, Catherine, gave birth to a boy Sunday.

Everyone in the AL East can at least take solace in the historically bad start for Toronto Blue Jays. He'd set the Red Sox down in order in the third, and while he allowed a double to Moreland in the fourth there was no other damage done.

It is a huge sporting day in Boston, with the Boston Marathon also run on Patriot's Day for more than a century.

The Rays went back ahead when Beckham led off the fifth by launching a Pomeranz pitch to center for his first homer of the season. Even with a loss and a no-decision, he's maintained an impressive 1.25 ERA through his first three starts of the season.

Red Sox: Brian Johnson (0-0) will be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Rodriguez's turn when Boston opens a series at Toronto, which starts RHP Marcus Stroman (1-1, 1.76).
