Chennai: AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran says he has stepped aside in the interest of the party, so the question of resigning does not arise. However, talks progressed late at night and the development came after a demand to that effect from the AIADMK Puratchi Thalaivi Amma faction, which is led by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. One of the pre-conditions of Panneerselvam for merger was to insulate the party from Sasikala, Dhinakaran and her family. "Both factions will talk to fulfil the aspirations of lakhs of party workers. Sasikala's appointment as the general secretary is illegal and we will not accept it. Family politics will not be accepted", he asserted. "The decision is unanimous and based on the views of all ministers including Chief Minister, MLAs, MPs, public", said minister D Jayakumar after a meeting held at the Chief Minister's home last evening. "If that is my destiny, I will face it and come out", he added.

Dinakaran, who is AIADMK General Secretary V.K.Sasikala's nephew, added that he does not know what the ministers are fearing and the U-turn in their stand has happened in a matter of three days.

The Election Commission has also postponed the by-election to the state assembly from R.K. Nagar that was set for April 12 as it found that voters were bribed with cash. We started a fight to oust Sasikala's family. "How can I escape from India", he told reporters here. Dinakaran has called a meeting of party lawmakers at 3 pm today at the party headquarters.

The Ministers said they would discuss the possibility of merger with OPS camp after Mr. Dhinakaran comes back to Chennai.
