She was also up 2-0 at the beginning of the second set.

Hsieh and Romania's Monica Niculescu rallied from a set down to edge Swiss duo Timea Bacsinszky and Martina Hingis 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 in 1 hour, 45 minutes.

Strycova lost the first set to Germany's Julia Goerges 6-4 but won the second 6-3 and was one game up in the decider when her opponent called it a day due to a problem with her right wrist.

Vondrousova won her first tour title hours after the 36-year-old Francesca Schiavone was the other WTA tournament victor in Bogota, Colombia.

"It's really unbelievable", the 19-year-old told the WTA Web site. "I've had a great season so far, and I played qualies here and I'm so glad I made it through and keep playing so good".

Vondrousova saved two of four break points and converted four of seven, winning 71 of the 124 points contested to advance to her first WTA Tour final.

"It's so super, because I didn't even know I could play that good!" "I'm a bit exhausted now, but I was able to stay focused today".

Teenage outsider Marketa Vondrousova claimed the first WTA title of her fledgling career by beating Anett Kontaveit in the Ladies Open Biel Bienne final. Vondrousova said after the victory. "I am calm and I feel confident".

"It was a really close first set with lots of breaks of serve", Kontaveit explained afterwards. "I was just trying to keep my head calm and keep my focus, and play every point, just stay aggressive and do my thing". "Mentally, I toughed it out".
