The Freedom Caucus rejected the American Health Care Act, the House Republican leadership's health care bill that Trump supported, arguing that the bill did not fully repeal Obamacare, which was a promise they had made to their constituents.

He then launched into a critique of Congressional Republicans - a view shared by many conservatives - over the failed bill.

"Now in my opinion, it's not the Freedom Caucus that's responsible for the GOP failure in this case to repeal and replace Obamacare", Hannity said on his eponymous program.

The groups in the Friday conference call included Bozell's ForAmerica, Tea Party Patriots, Heritage Action for America, FreedomWorks, Senate Conservatives Fund, Family Research Council, and the Texas Public Policy Foundation. It's in response to the president's tweet that indicated he would work to defeat caucus members in the 2018 midterms.

In a tweet on Thursday morning, Trump said the caucus "will hurt the entire Republican agenda", and suggested that members should face primary challenges next year.

Almost two dozen representatives of Ohio's tea party have written a letter to President Donald Trump.

"The Freedom Caucus is not your enemy, Mr. President".

Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-Idaho), one of the Freedom Caucus lawmakers Trump mentioned, answered the president's tweet as well.

In a March 29 commentary in The Wall Street Journal, columnist Daniel Henninger referred to the conservative group as the "House Un-Freedom Caucus".

"I don't think anybody could honestly call this bill good".

Andy Ross, vice president of the Club for Growth, harped on the point of campaign promises, saying, "The question isn't why the Freedom Caucus is being so hard-nosed, they are the ones actually keeping their promise ... the people breaking their campaign pledges to the American people are the moderates who are holding [Obamacare repeal] up".

Dunn is concerned that the Freedom Caucus will act similarly in coming weeks when the White House tackles tax reform by refusing to compromise.
