How could the CMA Entertainer of the Year take the night off in a music city such as Austin? The singer will play on Saturday, March 18, on the SXSW Outdoor Stage located at Lady Bird Lake with the Austin skyline as a backdrop.

He teased about a potential concert in an Instagram video Thursday night that's generated tens of thousands of views.

Brooks, who has an advertising degree from Oklahoma State University and went back at got an MBA from the school in 2011, was introduced as "the #1 selling solo artist in USA history".

"I've said this a million times: You could make a great living on music just staying in the state of Texas".

At SXSW on Friday, the country star - who's getting ready for a four show run at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, beginning Friday night - was a music conference keynote speaker at the Austin Convention Center.

Brooks will be arguably the biggest name to ever play at Auditorium Shores.

Austin360 reports that Brooks took the stage at the Broken Spoke at 11PM and began his set with "Friends in Low Places;" readers can see a snippet of that performance above.

And yes, SXSW registrants and music festival wristband holders can attend but the focus seems to be on Austin residents. Residency will be based on credit card billing address. The internet was abuzz on Thursday afternoon after several cryptic tweets and press releases teased Garth Brook's return to RodeoHouston next year.
