Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will make an official visit to Thailand on March 20-22, the government said on Thursday.

Rep. Gary Alejano of Magdalo party-list filed the complaint, accusing the President of high crimes such as killing suspected criminals and graft and corruption.

Duterte has been slapped with many such allegations.

Alejano said his aim was to give Filipinos a chance to speak up against a powerful president.

"No compelling reason to file an impeachment complaint against the President at this time".

Alejano said his impeachment complaint is mainly based on his state policy of killing drug offenders which resulted in over 8,000 deaths, as well as the reported 1,400 suspicious killings by the Davao Death Squad while Duterte was still mayor.

More than 8,000 people have been killed since Duterte unleashed his anti-drugs crusade, some 2,500 in police raids and sting operations.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte gestures as he speaks during a ground breaking ceremony of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway in the town of Cordova, Cebu province, Philippines, 02 March 2017. "It looks like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel", Reuters cited Abella as saying.

Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez also dismissed the move to unseat the President. Duterte's popularity rating remains high and he enjoys big support in the bicameral Congress.

"Let us not fight about ownership or sovereignty at this time because things are going great for my country", Duterte said on Monday in reference to China.
